Seoda is the Renaissance Ensemble of Galway Early Music. The group meets once a week to play Renaissance Dance Music, Fantasias, Canzonas and other forms in 2-6 parts with some forays into the Baroque. The recorders and flutes used are modern copies of Renaissance Kynseker instruments.
Seoda presently consists of about 15 winds, strings and percussion. We also recently acquired a cornett.
The main function of the ensemble is to provide music at Galway Early Music Events and to play in the St. Patrick’s Day and Festival Parade. We also entertain at various events and functions in the city, county and country. We are always looking for new players interested in Early Music and not afraid of being seen in the colourful costumes we get to wear.
With the help of generous capital grants from The Arts Council, Galway Early Music is gathering period instruments for the use of Seoda members.
Galway Early Music always welcomes new members to any of its areas of activity.
