MAY

16-18: The Galway Early Music Festival

Sensuous – A Multisensory Musical Experience

Music has always appealed to more senses than just hearing.  Sight – music by candle light, in a church or castle, musicians costumed..  Smell – church incense, a feast cooking, the country-side or a tavern. Taste: musicians at a feast, bawdy songs over a tankard of ale.   Each concert of this year’s festival brings an added dimension to the audience’s experience of the music.  Whether it is the venue, a concert by candle light, audacious costumes and staging or a historically informed costumed re-creation of early performance, this year’s concerts are sensual!
